Motivating Teaching

"Desarrollo de Competencias y Enseñanza del Ingles en el Aula" is a development course that English Teachers from the Jalisco state attended September 2-4 in Guadalajara. It was offered at Mision Carlton Hotel, an old twenty-story building where teachers from Vallarta and Chapala were lodged for the three days.

Guadalajara seen from one of the windows of Carlton Hotel.

This kind of workshop gives teachers the opportunity to:
  • Learn from highly qualified trainer.

  • Develop a huge variety of teaching techniques, and

  • Share experiences with other teachers from all over Jalisco.
At the end of the course, a certificate of attendance is provided by the Secretaria de Educacion Publica (SEP).

PRACTICING WHAT WE LEARNED (at Cantabar VIP, Karaoke bar).

LESSON PLANNING is a special skill that helps teachers to communicate their instructional activities. Lesson plans may contain student learning objectives, instructional procedures, the required materials, and some written description of how the students will be evaluated.

Consulting reference resources to help in lesson preparation...

TOTAL PHYSICAL RESPONSE (TPR) With this method students respond to commands that require physical movement. For example: the teacher says a single action word or phrase such as "sit down" or "stand up" and then demonstrates the action. The students will be able to repeat the words while they copy the action.

Using background music and visuals to make TPR sequence funnier...

Francis and me, performing "Viviendo de Noche" song (Advice: inappropriate for children).

"I'm not a perfect person... There's many things I wish I didn't do, but I continue learning..."
The use of realia is basic for the kids to learn.
                                          "De reversa mami..."

Crazy Vallarta and Guadalajara English Teachers.

"Carmen, I've lost my little chain..."

ASSESSMENT is the process of gathering and discussing information from multiple and diverse sources in order to develop a deep understanding of what students know, understand and can do with their knowledge as a result of their educational experiences. A teacher assesses to learn, to make sure he or she is doing a good job, to change strategies if needed, to be in track, to know what to do next, to be able to evaluate, etc.

According to the assessors's face, this presentation deserves an "F" grade.

Guadalajara teachers got an A+. Congratulations! You did it well!

These two are hard to evaluate!

CLOSING CEREMONY The last day of the course, every teacher created an object that represented themselves. One by one, they showed and explained what their craft was about. Some of them couldn't avoid crying, but there were a lot of laughs too. Very emotional moment...

                                           He loves music.

                                                           Jeff.
Me, talking about Frida and Art.

                                                          Francis and her alligator.
Gaby and Cecy, so serious, presenting a short lesson plan. They forgot everything they did last night...

Finally, I got the Third Eye, since I'm wiser everyday...
